Legal Challenges Facing the United Nations
In her role as Under-Secretary for Legal Affairs and United Nations Legal Counsel, Patricia O’Brien provides advice on a wide spectrum of legal issues facing the UN, such as the development of international law, issues relating to international treaties and legal matters arising from crisis situations.
In her address to LILA, Ms. O’Brien discussed the most pressing legal issues currently facing the United Nations such as the on-going conflict in Syria, the emerging doctrine of Responsibility to Protect and the work of the UN in Cambodia.
Her masterful command of such a broad range of topics provided ample material for a lively question and answer session at conclusion of her illuminating address.
LILA would like to extend our warmest thanks to the Ambassador Mr McDonagh, Dermot Keenan and Eugene Forde of the Embassy of Ireland for their support in hosting this prestigious event.
