Mentoring

We are pleased to announce applications are now open for our mentoring programme for 2025/2026.

We hope that the mentoring scheme supports the next generation of lawyers to develop the skills, experience and insight necessary for their progression in the legal profession.  This year’s programme will again match LILA members with law students and those at an early stage in their careers. The scheme is voluntary.

Mentees may be BPTC, GDL, LPC, SQE or final year law students, or alternatively, those already working in the legal profession in the early years of their career (up to 3 years PQE/call). Mentors are qualified lawyers who provide experienced perspectives which are invaluable for young and aspiring professionals. Similarly, mentees can provide mentors with new perspectives, as well as the personal and professional satisfaction of helping someone to achieve a career goal. Please note that the mentoring programme is not intended to operate as a careers service or work placement scheme.

The programme, as with LILA membership, is open to all in the legal profession with an affinity to the island of Ireland.  Applications are open to all, and we expressly encourage applicants from those groups who are currently underrepresented in the legal field.

The programme will commence in October 2025 and mentoring relationships are expected to last for at least 12 months. If you would like to participate as a mentor or apply to become a mentee, please fill in our application form. We encourage members to share this opportunity with colleagues and contacts who may be interested in participating.

Applications to participate in the scheme will close on Friday 12 September 2025, following which mentors and mentees will be matched and contacted.
