Mentoring

We are pleased to announce that we are restarting our mentoring programme for 2021/2022. In this very challenging year, LILA aims to ensure the next generation of lawyers are supported to develop the skills, experience and insight necessary for their progression in the legal profession. Building on the success of previous years, we are running the LILA mentorship scheme again, matching LILA members with law students and those at an early stage in their careers. The scheme is voluntary.

Mentees may be BPTC, GDL, LPC or final year law students, or alternatively, those already working in the legal profession in the early years of their career. Mentors are qualified lawyers who provide experienced perspectives which are invaluable for young and aspiring professionals. Similarly, mentees can provide mentors with new perspectives, as well as the personal and professional satisfaction of helping someone to achieve a career goal.

This year's scheme places particular focus on those groups who are currently underrepresented in the legal field. Our aim is to facilitate professional partnerships to enhance and support the professional and career growth of those facing obstacles to entering the legal profession.

The programme will run from November 2021 – July 2022. If you would like to participate as a mentor or apply to become a mentee, please fill in our application form. We encourage members to share this opportunity with colleagues and contacts who may be interested in participating.

Applications to participate in the scheme will close on 1 October 2021, following which mentors and mentees will be matched and contacted.
