Northern Ireland’s Road to Rights: A Bill of Rights for Northern Ireland

On 18 March 2021, we were delighted to host our first webinar in a series of events aimed at marking Northern Ireland’s centenary year. The series, ‘Northern Ireland’s Road to Rights’, will be an opportunity to reflect on human rights developments in the north of Ireland over the past century, as well as the challenges that lie ahead as Northern Ireland’s place within the UK, the island of Ireland, and Europe continues to be hotly debated.

The first event, a webinar and discussion with Professor Colin Harvey of Queens University, considered the topic of a Bill of Rights for Northern Ireland. Professor Harvey spoke and took questions on the issue the Bill of Rights in the context of ongoing discussions of constitutional change and the right to self-determination in the north of Ireland. As post-Brexit Northern Ireland faces a future without some of the safeguards it previously enjoyed, the issue of human rights and how best to protect them has never been more relevant.

The event was recorded and can be viewed below.
